Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority (DMCC), the licensing authority for the DMCC Free Zone, on Wednesday announced plans to build a mosque in Jumeirah Lakes Towers master community.

"DMCC is building a mosque to accommodate over 1,000 worshippers including an upper level prayer area available for over 300 women," DMCC Executive Chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said in a statement.

The design of the mosque is to be inspired by Ummayed/Andalusian architecture and will be named in honour of Uthman Ibn 'Affan (Dhun-Nurayn), the third Khalifat.

Sulayem said: “It is well known that at DMCC we continuously look at ways of enhancing the environment for the 70,000 people currently working and living in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. We spend time listening to our members and residents which is why we are in the process of completing the 55,000sqm park and now have the pleasure in announcing the construction of a community mosque.

"The 'Uthman Ibn 'Affan Mosque will compliment several existing prayer halls by providing a much needed opportunity for men and women to pray within their community and is an essential natural next step in improving quality of life and sense of belonging.”

The mosque will be constructed on a site comprising of part of Lake A and some adjacent land (see attached map).  In addition to the mosque further large scale parking and landscaping will be constructed in order to meet the needs of the community.

DMCC Free Zone, the fastest growing and soon to be the largest in the UAE, continues to expand its mixed-use Free Zone and freehold community. Earlier this year and in response to community requests DMCC announced the transformation of one of its lakes into a 55,000 square metre community park due to be completed by the end of 2013.

There are currently 65 mixed-use commercial and residential towers and over 200 retail outlets in operation within Jumeirah Lakes Towers. DMCC is also firmly set to meet its commitment made in early 2011 to be home to over 7,200 companies by the end of 2013.
