Children under the age of 15 will require to present independent passports in order to obtain National Identity Cards, according to Emirates Identity Authority.

It is optional for children to have ID cards, however, all children under 15 years must be mentioned in the population register, said Abdul Aziz Al Ma'amari, Director of Public Relations and Marketing, Eida.

He was quoted by 'Al Ittihad' newspaper as saying ID cards for this age group is subject to the approval of their guardians. However, application process must be set forth within six months of reaching 15 years, he added.

If children choose to apply for ID cards, they will need to have independent passports. They will have to get the forms filled up online through typing offices and are not required to visit registration centres. Their passports should be valid and attached with residency visa in addition to photos with a blue background.
