Killer sentenced to death in Abu Dhabi

A court in Abu Dhabi sentenced an Asian worker to death after he was convicted of murdering his friend by stabbing him in the stomach.

The defendant had confessed to stabbing his roommate but claimed he had no intention to kill him and that he acted in self defence after he was molested by him.

Death sentences in the UAE are carried out by a firing squad but have to be ratified by the country’s President.

Man kills another with empty liquor bottle

An Asian man is on trial in Abu Dhabi on charges of using an empty liquor bottle to kill another Asian during a fight in the city.

The judge on Tuesday decided to adjourn hearings to Jan 20 for a statement by the victim’s relatives on whether they would accept diya (blood money).

Police had arrested the man after examination showed the victim died after the defendant smashed the bottle on his head.
