The Ministry of Labour has said that it can make exceptions and waive the requirement of a university degree for the issuance of a work permit, for those who are experts in certain professions.

Humaid bin Dimas, Undersecretary for Labour Affairs, Ministry of Labour, was quoted by Emirat Al Youm as saying that the issuance of the work permit will be guaranteed only in the event of holding an actual experience certification that confirms expertise in a profession.

This ruling came in response to a request made by a company issuing work permits for marine trainers of US nationality that do not have college degrees.

In a separate case, the ministry gave approval to an expatriate investor who requested a change of sponsor after it was been discovered that the sponsor had problems with his records.

The ministry clarified that the investor was been given approval only after the MoL conducted an inspection of the facility, its workers and judged the seriousness of the request.
