While bad drivers in the UAE are regularly penalised for flouting traffic rules, here’s a unique opportunity for the “good” drivers to cash in.

Porsche Centre Dubai has partnered with Dubai and Sharjah Police in an innovative road safety campaign that rewards safe driving.

The initiative kicked off on March 23, and was on for five days.

During the bi-annual RoadStar campaign, Dubai and Sharjah Police traffic officers are patrolling the roads during three traffic rush hours each day in Porsche Cayenne SUVs.

They instantly reward the best drivers with Dh1,000 in cash along with a ‘safe driver’ certificate.

The campaign, which will end today, will award 10 safe drivers a day.

The total amount to be given away during the five-day campaign is Dh50,000.

RoadStar is supported by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF).

“The RoadStar contest is a fantastic initiative that promotes and rewards safe drivers on Dubai and Sharjah roads,” K Rajaram, CEO of Al Nabooda Automobiles, the sole distributor for Porsche in Dubai and the Northern Emirates told the local media.

“The concept of rewarding safe drivers and creating a buzz around them is important because it has an immediate positive impact on the drivers and their circle of friends and family.

After Dubai, the RoadStar contest will move to Sharjah from March 26-27.

Ciel Events Director and founder of the RoadStar campaign Roshanara Sait said: “I have always said that it is necessary we adhere to road rules and regulations in force here with a strict sense of responsibility.

“More so, as the UAE is home to over 200-plus nationalities with varying driving styles thereby making it even more necessary that we adhere to local road rules and regulations.”
