In a rare ruling, an Abu Dhabi court ordered a lawyer to pay his client Dh50,000 damages after he was blamed for her loss of a case for his failure to appeal a verdict.

The woman had paid the lawyer Dh5,000 to support her court case that involves demanding her employers to pay her Dh290,000 in end of service benefits.

The court rejected the case but asked the lawyer to appeal within the legal period, according to local newspapers.

“The lawyer did not appeal the case and this caused his client to lose her claim. She filed a suit against the lawyer, who was ordered by the court to pay his client Dh50,000 damages,” Arabic language daily 'Al Bayan' said.

It said the court dismissed the woman’s claim to have the lawyer pay her Dh298,000 in “financial and moral” damages.
