The Dubai Traffic Court ordered suspension of a motorist’s licence for one year for driving under the influence of drugs.

His licence had been suspended earlier for a similar violation.

The 21-year-old GCC citizen was also ordered to pay a fine of Dh25,000.

A police patrol stopped the motorist when they saw the accused driving in the direction opposite to the traffic. Policemen noticed that he was abnormal and a blood test showed that he was found under the influence of drugs.

Checking his record, the Prosecution found out that the accused had committed a similar violation earlier and his driving licence was suspended by a court order.

On the request of the Public Prosecution to implement stiff penalties on motorists who drive under the influence of drugs, the Traffic Court ordered the suspension of 12 driving licences for six months and one year since the beginning of this year till date.

During the same period, 25 motorists had been reported to be driving under the influence of drugs against 60 drivers last year.

During the last two years, the Traffic Court had ordered cancellation of four licences of motorists who were convicted guilty of driving under the influence of drugs.
