Mustang has turned 50 and it’s never looked more appealing. With its fan base being one of the largest in the world, the 50th anniversary celebrations will be a showstopper for the car community this year. Carmudi, the world’s largest international car classifieds expert, has been in touch with Ford to discuss the Mustang redesign and their upcoming party plans in the UAE.

“On April 17, the Mustang turns 50, joining the exclusive club of vehicles that have been in continuous production for 50 years. To mark this in the UAE, we have organised a major parade in Dubai on Saturday, April 19, headed by the Dubai Police Mustang Roush vehicle,” said Paul Anderson, Ford Middle East Marketing Director.

“We expect close to 200 vehicles in the parade which will go around major points of in the city. This parade will then be followed by a festival-type celebration at Dubai’s Meydan Hotel, which will be full of exciting activities and competitions for best-looking, best-customised and best restored Mustang, in addition to some surprises.” Needless to say, this party will have lots of enthusiasts vying for attention.

The added news that a new model will be released next year to mark the 50th anniversary calls for an even bigger celebration. Ford Mustang lovers should be really excited about the new model, according to Anderson who stated, “The 2015 Mustang will be all-new and loaded with innovative technologies and delivering world-class levels of performance.”

According to Ford, the 5.0 V8 Coupe is the best-selling model from the Mustang range in the UAE, and the automatic version is among the popular ones. The Shelby GT500, which generates an unbeaten 650 net horsepower is the most expensive model from the Mustang stable, and currently prices for the 2014 GT500 starting at Dh310,000 ($84,399).

Throughout its long history, the Mustang has often been featured in TV shows, music videos and movies, its most famous outing being in the James Bond film Goldfinger, as well as appearances in Charlie’s Angels and the music video for ‘Crazy’. This connection to pop culture has helped to establish the car’s huge fan base, not only in North America but also in several emerging markets, as automotive industry expert Carmudi reports.

A look back at Mustang through the years:

The original Ford Mustang debuted on April 17, 1964, at Dh8,697 approx. ($2,368). And in Texas, 15 customers thronged to bid on the same Mustang. Such was the frenzy that the winning bidder resorted to sleeping overnight in his new car. Why? Just so that it wouldn’t be sold out from under him before his check could clear.

1964 1/2 Mustang

The original Mustang, and still considered the best by many fans – had a huge impact on the industry as one of the first sporty, reasonably priced cars.

1970 Boss 429

Ford took the classic Mustang look and added V8 engine power and suspension, setting the standard for high-performance vehicles to come.

1974-78 Mustang II

Although it is now considered one of the weakest Mustangs in terms of performance, this model also accounted for four of the best sales years in Mustang’s history, since it was more affordable and had much better fuel economy than its predecessors.

2007 Shelby GT500

The GT500 was the most powerful Mustang built to date, and was loaded with performance and luxury equipment, creating a whole new generation of Mustang fans whilst still pleasing die-hard fans too.

2012 Boss 302

This model took the look and feel of the 1970 Boss model and fine-tuned it, bringing it into the modern era. The 2012 Boss 302 is graceful, smooth, balanced and solid. If you took heritage and nostalgia out of the equation, this Mustang would be number one in terms of power and quality.
