Rizwana Khan Ghori had hit our news radar in August last year for her staggering collection of 900 Disney plush toys, and now, she’s back in the spotlight for winning the Limca Book of Records for it.

“I’m thrilled, and so happy that my collection is growing into something so much more,” she told Emirates24|7.

Her collection of authentic Disney plush toys, which now stands at 1,100, is worth a whopping Dh320,000.

“I hope to auction it one day, and give a part of the earning to charity.”

Rizwana adds she hopes to attempt the Guinness Book of World Records. “I will do it, but for now, I’m just enjoying the moment, and slowly adding to my collection.”

Boxes of plush toys arrive at her residence in Sharjah every two months, she says, adding: “It is expensive to ship one toy at a time, from the US. So, I plan my shopping in such a way that it is shipped from the retailer to my rented cargo space in Portland, US. Once, the collection hits 40, then I pay the rent, and have the dolls shipped to the UAE.”

She says it’s her father who she has to thank for indulging her.

“My father has been so supportive, and has helped me through it all. In fact, he has rented out a two-bed apartment in Sharjah for my collection.”

The plush toys are stocked in shelves, built in, across the hall. “My father also downloaded an app on my phone that allows me to check on my collection every time.”

Rizwana, who hails from Kerala, started collecting dolls when she was just 12 years old.

Her little girl, now three years old, celebrated her birthday with her mother’s plush collection turning the perfect backdrop for her princess party. But Rizwana claims her girl is more into trucks than dolls.

“She thinks the doll collection is her mother’s, and doesn’t give it much attention. Also, she sees it all the time so there’s no novelty or excitement attached to it.”

Among the collection, the most expensive one is valued at Dh10,000. “It’s limited edition Molly Cunningham.” And the least expensive is Jimini Cricket for $1. Her first find was the toy named Gadget, which was made in the 1980s. “There are about 17 of those now, and I have one of them.”

Rizwana confesses she will continue to collect for as long as she can. “There’s never an end to a collector’s dream. There’s always that one toy that can be added to the collection.”
