Maid with illegitimate twins out of hospital

A Philippine housemaid who delivered twin girls by herself in her employer’s bathroom in Sharjah has been discharged from hospital and detained by police for interrogation.

Police charged the girl of committing adultery, getting pregnant through an illegitimate relationship and endangering her twins’ life.

Police said they have also arrested her lover, a Bangladeshi man who works for a family next door in the emirate, just before fleeing the country.

The semi-official daily Al Ittihad said the maid was discharged from hospital after her condition improved but it made no mention of the twins.

The maid was taken to hospital last week after her employers in Nouf area found her in a state of shock inside the bathroom after she delivered herself. The man and his wife said they had not noticed the maid had been pregnant.
