January 25
Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashes minutes after taking off from Beirut airport. All 90 passengers and crew killed.

April 10
Polish President Lech Kaczynski's official Tupolev Tu-154 plane crashes near Smolensk airport in western Russia. Plane was carrying Kaczynski, his wife Maria and large number of senior officials. All die.

May 12
An Afriqiyah Airways A330-200 Airbus crashes in Libya, killing 103 people as it tried to land at Tripoli airport after a flight from South Africa. One Dutch boy survives.

July 28
All 150 people on a Pakistani Airbus die when the aircraft crashes into a hillside outside Islamabad.

May 22
Air India Boeing crashes on landing in the southern Indian city of Mangalore, killing all 158 aboard.
