A major fire is raging at a chemical trading firm in Sharjah’s Industrial Area 2.

Located near the Igloo Ice Cream factory, Al Khowahir Chemical Trading Factory is on fire for almost twenty minutes, said an eye witness.

“The fire has been going on for about twenty five minutes. It is a major fire. People are taking videos and photographs,” said the eye witness.

“This is a major chemical trading company in the Sharjah Industrial area, which has a dhow making unit too. It deals with chemicals for fiberglass, paint, water treatment, food and beverages, construction and oil field industry. The fire has gutted its central office in the Sharjah industrial area. The huge fire has gutted the company premises leaving thick smoke all around. The civil defence team is trying to keep the fire under control. For chemicals have caught fire, it is still not under control,” said the eye witness.

“We can see thick dark smoke and fire in the adjacent factory. A lot of people have been witnessing the fire, taking photographs and videos of the raging fire,” said another eye witness.

"The fire has partially damaged our office premises in Sharjah. The fire caused by some catalysts and it is being brought under control. It did not cause any casualty or injury," said a company source. The company's warehouse in Ajman is working normally.

All the products stored in the ware house are highly inflammable, making fire-fighting a herculean task, said sources in the company.

On Sunday afternoon, Sharjah Industrial witnessed a major fire that gutted part of a paper trading and manufacturing firm.
