Latest update: There has been a massive traffic jam on Sharjah-Dubai Etihad Road.
Motorists reported traffic jam starts from Al Khan bridge to Deira City Centre on lanes heading towards Abu Dhabi and that vehicles are moving very slowly.
The motorists didn’t specify the reason for the massive traffic congestion.
Earlier in the morning, Dubai Police reported an accident on Sheikh Zayed Road between 7th and 8th interchanges and warned of traffic congestion. It asked drivers to drive carefully.
According to the authority, the accident has occurred in front of the power plant, with traffic congestion being reported on the busy highway.
Commuters are already reporting of tailbacks that have stretched up until the Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Dubai Marina, along with causing congestion near the exit of the Discovery Gardens community.
Today’s accident is reminiscent of the major jam the occurred on Monday morning involving an accident between a car and a van, ironically near the same site, leaving several minor accidents in its wake and causing a jam that stretched to nearly two hours on February 24.
Several commuters vented their frustration on social media, with S M K tweeting: “Another accident on Sheikh Zayed road Dubai near exit 21 towards Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi bound. Traffic piling up.”
Mays Kadhem tweeted: “Second accident this week on Sheikh Zayed Road! What's wrong with people?”
Dubai Police has asked drivers to proceed with caution, while some commuters are suggesting to take alternative routes to avoid a situation akin to Monday.
