Man throws pepper in pedestrian's eyes, robs him

A 28-year-old Pakistani, KKB, allegedly threw red pepper powder in to the eyes of a pedestrian and stole Dh15,900 from his pocket, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim KKS, 30, Pakistani, clerk, testified that while he was waiting for the owner of a nearby company  to drop him home after finishing his work in an electronic shop, someone attempted to steal money from him.

“It was around 12.15pm on March 26, at Al Sabkha area, I put Dh15,900 which were shop's sales in my pocket and walked towards the nearby shop and waited the owner to close and go home together to Al Qusais area. Someone came close to me and sprayed red pepper into my eyes; so I could not see. He pulled the money from my pocket and ran away… I called for help... One of the pedestrians heard me and ran after the thief and caught him. Police arrived and arrested the accused and confiscated the money,” he testified.

Malek Kabeer, 38, driver, testified that he saw the accused throwing pepper into the eyes of the victim.

He also saw him putting his hand in the victim’s pocket and taking money from it.

“I ran after him and caught him. He threw the money on the ground and asked him to leave him and pick the money. Instead I called the police… accidently a patrol passed by so I hand him over to them.”

First Seargent testified that he was patrolling in Al Sabkha area with his colleague. At the Dolphin Hotel, there was a big crowd. I stopped near the crowd. A man approached us and handed a person telling that he attempted to rob a pedestrian.

The victim was in a very bad condition… All his face was covered with red pepper… and he was badly tearing.

The accused confessed to entering the country illegally from Oman and had planned robber. He took red pepper from his house and went down to Al Sabkha area. As he saw the victim he executed his plan, he confessed.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until May 27.
