Medical tests for expatriates at DHA centres

Medical tests for expatriates will be done at the Department of Medical Fitness Services of Dubai Health Authority, according to Al Khaleej newspaper.

Khalid Ahmad Al Sheikh Mubarak, Deputy Director-General of DHA, said the decision is in line with the Council of Ministers Resolution No7 of 2008.

Maisa’a Al Bustani, Director of Medical Fitness Services, DHA, said: "About 50 per cent of the tests conducted by the department was related to employment...those who came to the UAE for the first time." She added that tests for both types of Hepatitis for newcomers as well as for residents are cancelled.

Hepatitis examination has been confined to six categories - babysitters, housekeepers, private drivers and supervisors of nurseries, kindergartens, and staff in hairdressing salons, health clubs and cooks, butchers and restaurant staff.

Next week the autority will organise a campaign on HIV awareness. About 472 AIDS patients have beendeported between 2008 and end-November last year. And about 7,927 Hepatitis cases were discovered.

Al Sheikh said DHA examined about 700,000 people at its medical fitness centres during the period. Now the number of centres have been increased to 14 spread acorss the emirate. And the results are obtained within three hours.

Some centres have the capacity to handle about 4,000 clients per day, he added. DHA plans to open two more centres early next year, one each in Al Rashidiya and Al Quoz.
