At SixtySeven Auto Services, the flurry of excitement and world media attention has something to do with the Dh30 million worth of supercars that have driven in for a makeover these past few months, which now comprise the new and improved Dubai Police vehicles.

Gerard Wilson is the man behind the makeover of the shiny new mean machines that have taken to the city streets sporting the Dubai Police insignia, with residents lauding the inclusion of the Lamborghini Aventador, the Aston Martin One-77, the Mercedes SLS, the Bentley Continental GT Speed and the Ferrari FF to the men in green’s superfleet.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, Wilson, who owns the workshop that is responsible for this uplift, said: “We started work on the first set of cars last year in September, when Dubai Police launched its public campaign of introducing the superfleet with the Dodge Challenger and the Interceptor.

“Those prototypes were so well received that it was only a matter of time that the next wave of supercars made it to the garage for a makeover.”

What many assume as a cumbersome, time consuming process to give this fleet an uplift, is only a 24-hour turn around, revealed Wilson.

“The process is a fairly simple one,” he explained. “The graphic designer works on the imagery, which is sent across for final approval with the decision makers. Once the green light is given, it takes us less than a day to foil the cars with the design and have it ready to hit the streets.”

Foiling an entire car, said Wilson, can cost upto Dh20,000.

“The earlier prototypes were painted, which required a lot of prep work, three coats of paint, a top coat, primer and what not; it was quite labour intensive,” he explained, going into the technicality of the process. “The later supercar fleet, starting with the Lamborghini, underwent the foiling process, which was much simpler and created a better finish.”

Wilson and his workshop, which received a trophy and an honorary certificate for work excellence from Dubai Police, has confirmed that more cars will be driving through the workshop very soon.

“The authorities have confirmed that there will be more cars added to the superfleet, but it is too early to say which make or model these cars would be,” he added.

Last week, Major General Khamis Mattar Mazinah, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, unveiled all the cars at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, along with confirming that more cars would be added to the fleet.

When prompted, he did not rule out a Bugatti in the future.

He added that the luxury patrol car initiative was intended as a tourist attraction at the ATM, which contributed to the increased interaction of the members of the public and visitors, in addition to promoting it for the Dubai Expo 2020 bid.

Earlier cars added to this superfleet also include the Chevrolet Camaro and a BMW 5 series.
