The UAE’s Ministry of Education has reiterated that no exceptions will be made in the minimum age limit set for students enrolling in kindergarten.

Last year, the MoE had set the age limit for admission at four years.

The reiteration comes after a ‘large number of parents flocked to the customer service centre at the Ministry building, demanding an exception to the age of consent for their children in kindergarten’, Al Bayan newspaper reported.

An official source at the Ministry stated the measures have been taken to avoid any discrimination between students.

The source added that a set conditions and criteria for admission of students have been set, for both government and private education schools that follow the MoE curriculum.

According to the regulation, a student would be accepted into kindergarten if s/he was born before the last day of December.

The official added that and if a student was born on January 1, s/he will not be entitled to attend school for being younger than the legal age.

On the other side, parents who were looking for an exception of not more than 15 days for enrolling their children confirmed that the old regulation included exceptions and allowed even a 30 days age limit extension.

Several parents stated the new regulations should be cancelled, which prohibit a student from a full academic year because of a few days.
