General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received at Al Bahr Palace a group of scholars who are participating in the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies.

Over 250 of the world’s leading Islamic scholars, academics and thought leaders have gathered to attend the Forum which started yesterday in Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Mohamed and the group of scholars exchanged cordial talks on agenda and activities of the forum in addressing extremist ideas which breach tolerant tenets of Islam and reflecting the true Islamic values which preach and promote tolerance, moderation, peace, goodness and peaceful co-existence

Sheikh Mohamed said the scholars were facing huge and exceptional challenges in confronting sedition and chaos mongers.
"Islam has always been, and will always be, the religion of good, tolerance, love and solidarity among the mankind.

“Of late, some isolated minority groups started to sow hatred among people through their twisted thought, narrow-minded interpretations and ignorant opinions and to distort the image of Islam and Muslims by creating conflicts and spreading terror," he added.

Sheikh Mohamed said there are practices in some parts of the Islamic world that do not reflect the true image of Islam which calls for amity, brotherhood, peace, and cooperation to achieve happiness and peace of mind.
He called on the scholars to exert more efforts to correct misconceptions and to enlighten people about their religious and social responsibilities. He also urged them to work towards putting Fatwas on their right perspective.

"A closer look at the history of Islam will show how Muslims existed with others in peace and harmony and how they founded a civilisation that was seen as a beacon of science, culture, thought and literature."

The scholars praised the approach adopted by the UAE in realising the vision of Islam for development in accordance with the tolerant teachings of Islam.
