Mohammed has more than six million followers on social media

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai is highly regarded as one of the top world leaders on social media with followers exceeding six million across various channels.

Sheikh Mohammed took to Twitter to thank his followers by saying “My social media followers exceeded 3M on Twitter, 2M on Facebook and 1M on both Instagram and Google+.” “I extend my thanks to all followers and to everyone interacting with us through providing new comments, suggestions & ideas,” he added.

Highlighting the importance of social media in the world today, Sheikh Mohammed said that such channels “created new opportunities, removed all barriers and made the audience part of our development plans.”

Sheikh Mohammed continued, “Having a tremendous influence, today social media channels serve as an open parliament and cannot be ignored or misled.” His Highness also praised the positive participation from his followers who use social media channels to offer suggestions, ideas and initiatives that add impetus to the socio-economic growth of the UAE.

Speaking on the public interaction and response to the international humanitarian initiatives he launched, Sheikh Mohammed also thanked his followers for the tremendous support for efforts directed at helping human beings regardless of religion, colour or ethnicity.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid is an active user of social media where he uses various channels to express personal views, philosophy and reflect on his experience as a leader and a human to funnel positive energy to people urging them to employ this energy to better serve their community.

In 2013, Sheikh Mohammed took to social media to ask followers to join a brainstorming session. “We want every man, woman and child to join us in the biggest ever national brainstorm session to find new ideas for health and education,” His Highness said through his Twitter account then. “Education and health concern all of us, so I invite all of UAE society to think collectively of creative solutions,” he continued.

Marking his accession as the Ruler of Dubai in 2014, Sheikh Mohammed launched the Twitter hashtag ‘Thank-you Khalifa’ (in Arabic) in recognition and appreciation of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan whom he called “a man of efforts and initiatives, which touch us all.” The initiative made waves in record time as it reverberated through more than millions of accounts on social media websites in less than a week.

On the advent of the holy month of Ramadan this year, Sheikh Mohammed announced the ‘UAE Water Aid’ campaign through social media. The success was overwhelming. More than AED180 million of donations were collected during the fasting month with aims to provide clean drinking water to more than seven million people in poor countries.
