Mohammed orders set up of events, festivals Board

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the forming of a Board of Directors to organise events and festivals in the Emirate of Dubai, under the chairmanship of Mohammed Ali Al Abbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties PJSC, who will report directly to Sheikh Mohammed.

Sheikh Mohammed instructed Al Abbar to form the Board of Directors from both public and private sectors' figures, especially those endowed with excellence and experience in the areas of tourism and marketing promotion, and in organising all types of festivals.

He also ordered exemption of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, from 10 per cent fee on events and activities carried out by the establishment in Dubai, citing that the exemption would contribute to activating of the role of the establishment, and alleviating financial burden on it.

Sheikh Mohammed ordered to return the annual financial budget of the establishment to what it previously was.
He called on officials and competent public institutions to step up efforts and launch creative initiatives to establish Dubai as a global city for shopping festivals, artistic and social, recreation and tourism.

Sheikh Mohammed told the heads of departments while touring the office of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment on Saturday;  "I want you to exercise transparency and adopt teamwork to restore Dubai's image, presence and leadership in hosting and organising exhibitions, tourist festivals, private art and music for children and families", adding, "There will be no obstacles anymore and you will perform your duties with flexibility and support from me personally.

“I do not want excuses in future because all the facilities are put in your hands, so commit yourselves to implement responsibilities diligently and faithfully to get to the desired goals and achieve good for our country, our people and our national institutions, and then contribute positively to stimulate tourism, trade and culture in the UAE in general in order to maintain a well-established reputation of our beloved country unshakeable in regional and international circles."

He reiterated that the organisation of events in Dubai will coincide with official holidays in the UAE, neighbouring countries and the region to woo greater number of tourists and visitors of all ages in all seasons.

Flanked by Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Dubai Ports and Customs, Al Abbar and other senior officials, Sheikh Mohammed attended a demonstration by Laila Suhail, CEO of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, on the vision of establishment regarding development of events sector in Dubai.
