Monday morning traffic woes for Sharjah commuters

Commuters from Sharjah are facing morning traffic gridlock with the Emirates Road (old Dubai Bypass Road) and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (SMBZ) at a near standstill this past hour.

Several frustrated drivers were grumbling on Twitter about being late to work again this week, while Al Ansari simply said: “There’s no hope for Sharjah at all. Somehow they have found a way to create traffic on Dubai Bypass – Emirates Road.”

Another commuter tweeted: “Sharjah Maliha Road at complete standstill approaching SMBZ.”

Two accidents this morning, one on SMBZ opposite Mirdiff City Centre and another on Al Khail Road, near the Umm Sequim exit have resulted in jams that have added to the morning frustration.

One eyewitness, Kumar Kutty, coming in from Sharjah said: “There was waterlogging in some parts, especially near the National Paints junction causing the jam. This just kept getting worse, probably because of an accident further up on the highway.”

Meanwhile, within the city of Dubai, residents of the Gardens community, along with those in the Greens and Tecom areas have their own share of woes with the roundabout near Gardens, along with Hessa Street, jammed in both directions.
