Traffic gridlock is being reported from major highways and arteries across Dubai, with Al Khail Road presenting itself as a relatively viable option for those who have been trapped in the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (SMBZ) or the Emirates Road jams since 7am.

An accident reported on the old Bypass Road, now Emirates Road, after Maliha Bridge around 7.30am is still to clear, according to eyewitnesses, with a major chunk of the traffic from Sharjah routing towards SMBZ, adding to a growing gridlock.

Meanwhile, at 8.30am, an accident was reported on Al Wasl Road, heading into Dubai from Jumeirah, right before the Emirates Bank junction, causing the already congested lanes to have tailbacks extending towards Safa Park.

Authorities were on the scene to handle the two-car accident, which saw a white hatchback with its front bonnet crushed in.

Wet weather

Rain has also been reported near the Arabian Ranches, with the wet weather causing traffic to slow down further while connecting on to Al Khail Road.

And those who live in Discovery Gardens or Tecom and the Greens Community, may want to brace themselves for a long drive ahead.
Abdallah Iskandarani tweeted: “Discovery gardens is packed, both exits!”

Also, Hessa Street, heading towards Al Khail and Sheikh Zayed Road is slow moving.

A car that was also stopped on the hard shoulder on Sheikh Zayed Road, heading into Abu Dhabi, has resulted in slow moving traffic.
