Mother in custody as dad, child cremated

Dubai’s prosecutor to question woman on reason why husband hung himself and killed his daughter

The bodies of the father and daughter who were found dead in their Bur Dubai apartment will be cremated today (Tuesday).

Meanwhile, the Indian wife who survived the apparent suicide bid has been taken into custody for interrogation following her recovery, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Dubai’s prosecutor will question the woman on the reasons that had led her husband to hang himself and kill his five-year-old daughter before his death. The wife was the only survivor in the family but was found in the bathroom in a hysterical fit after slashing her wrist veins.

“The Dubai police have referred that woman to the prosecution for interrogation to determine the motives for the mass suicide following her fully recovery,” the Sharjah-based Arabic language daily Alkhaleej.

The bodies of the father and daughter were handed over to the deceased's brother Ribesh and a relative Sunil Kumar and were flown to India last night.

The burial will take place at 9am (India time) at Rijesh’s hometown at Kannur in the South Indian state of Kerala.

The family had been living in Dubai for last six years. Rijesh, 32 and his daughter Avantika, 5, were found dead in their apartment in mysterious circumstances on January 14.

According to reports while Rijesh was found hanging from the ceiling, his daughter was murdered – suffocated to death using a pillow. The wife was found locked up bleeding severely following a cut on her wrist.

May their souls rest in peace-- this is one of the most mysterious and unfortunate deaths i have come across -- anybody killing himself and his daughter for mere AED 15000 is very doubtful --even the wife tried to kill herself-- may she have the strength to undergo what is in store for her and help the law to give justice -- if she also is involved then she too needs to be punished-- but if not-- nothing can be more unfortunate for her....
