Mubadala Development Company (MDC), the investment arm of the Abu Dhabi government, said on Thursday it would set up a medical screening centre in the capital to provide services to expatriates renewing their residence.

Mubadala Healthcare, an offshoot of the Abu Dhabi-based MDC, said it would launch the new facility in the first quarter of 2011.

“Capital Health Screening Centre, will provide standard infectious disease screenings for expatriates applying for and renewing their Abu Dhabi residency visas,” it said in a statement.

“This new facility will play a vital role in ensuring that Abu Dhabi remains a healthy city in which to live and work by providing these mandatory medical checks for the Emirate’s migrant workforce.”

It said the centre would be located at Al Jazira Sports Stadium on Muroor Road – less than five minutes’ drive from the Department of Immigration on Al Saada Street.  When operational, it will have the capacity to manage up to 300 visa applicants per day as well as providing the option of a premium medical service with a 24 hour turnaround on results.

The Centre will be operated by Singapore’s AsiaMedic Limited, specialists in disease prevention and early illness detection.

AsiaMedic is already working in partnership with Mubadala to set up a wellness and diagnostic centre in Abu Dhabi, which is scheduled to open next year.
