Dubai Municipality has towed away a wooden boat, weighing about 100 tonnes, from Dubai Creek in cooperation with a number of local departments and some private sector companies.

This achievement is part of the clean-up campaign launched by the waste management department at the municipality last June to clean the Dubai Creek of sunken ships, boats and equipment.

The modern equipment and boats were used in the cleaning process.

Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of Waste Management Department at the Dubai Municipality, said, "The canals' team of the department of hygiene was set up to tow out the sunken boat without causing any damage, taking into account the security requirements of occupational safety."

He added that the necessary security clearances were approved by the relevant authorities to extract the sunken boat from Dubai Creek.

Saifaie said the boat was towed out in coordination with a number of strategic partners of the Dubai Municipality such as Dubai RTA, Dubai Customs, divers from Emirates Marine Environment Group and a number of private sector companies.

He added that the process reflects the spirit of cooperation among the partners, and noted that the partners would be honoured soon.
