Global technology leader Lockheed Martin announced today the call for participants in its upcoming UAE National Day weekend Robotics Challenge.

Lockheed Martin is hosting a 3-day Robotics competition from 1st - 3rd December over the National Day weekend to inspire, train and develop an indigenous pipeline of the next generation of national Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics, STEM, professionals.

In line with the UAE’s strategic human capital development objectives, this competition aims to increase the local population’s engagement within the STEM fields by introducing UAE youths to fun, engaging activities to grow these critical skills and benefit the UAE community.

Students between the ages of 5 and 13 will be invited to participate in the multi-day training and competition to take place at Lockheed Martin’s Center for Innovation and Security Solutions based in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. During the event, students will build, programme and modify different robots.

The first robot is designed to introduce the students to the materials and programming while the second robot is designed to encourage creative modifications. The programme will serve as an entry point for students to experience first-hand the real-life application of physical engineering and technology.

Announcing the competition and call for participants, Robert S. Harward, Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin UAE, said, "We’re committed to supporting the development of young professionals across the STEM fields to inspire the human potential that will support the industries and economies of the future. This competition reflects the UAE’s national spirit of competitiveness and ambition to develop the STEM fields, which are critical to the UAE."

Yousef Baselaib, Executive Director of Sustainable Real Estate at Masdar, added, "Stimulating a culture of innovation lies at the core of our achievements at Masdar. We are delighted to be welcoming our young guests to this Robotics Competition in Masdar City next month, which will further encourage our youth to explore professions in science and technology and ultimately drive economic growth and innovation in the UAE."
