New book reveals Indian achievers in UAE

Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), launched Pacesetters 2, a book on Indian achievers, in Dubai in the presence of diplomats and prominent members of the UAE and Indian communities.

Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of the Office of the Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Indian Ambassador to the UAE, MK Lokesh, attended the book launch. Around 30 Indian achievers have been profiled in the book.

Al Sayegh said: “Pacesetters 2 serves as a valuable record for future generations, of the contribution of the Indian community towards Dubai’s socio-economic development and of the prominent role Indians have played in the history of the UAE, since arriving on these shores more than a century ago.

“The governments of Dubai and the UAE cherish this contribution, which has enabled Dubai particularly, to tide over recent economic challenges in a short time. Bilateral ties continue to flourish through increased trade and investments. Dubai looks forward to enhanced co-operation and welcomes further investments from India,” he added.

The 258-page publication took is the result of extensive research and interviews with the achievers over a year period. The readers will have the feel of being told the story personally by the achievers themselves.

Authored by UAE-based journalist, Meraj Rizvi, Pacesetters 2 is the second book; the first edition was launched in 2010. Like the first book, Pacesetters 2 features the inspiring stories of Indian expatriates from a horse trainer to educationist, social worker to entrepreneurs and professionals who have made their mark in the UAE in various walks of life, with a focus on excellence in entrepreneurship.

The 30 people featured, including three women in Pacesetters2 ,  are Anil Bhardwaj, Mohan Valrani, Raj Shetty, Raza Baig, GB Choithram, Navin Kapoor, Suri Lulla, Satish Seemar, Jacky Panjabi, Nicole Rodrigues, Surender Singh Kandhari, Bimal Bhatia, Murij Manghnani, Raju Jethwani, Y. Rajeev Reddy, Deepak Babani, Dr Bharat Bhutaney, K. Rajaram, Omana Menon, Faizal Kottikollon, Shyam Bhatia, Vinesh K. Bhimani, Sudesh K. Aggarwal, Kulwant Singh, Shaji Ul Mulk, Rizwan Sajan, Amit Dhamani, Rajiv Bhatia, Ashok Kumar and Dr. Hitesh Bodani.

“The individuals who figure in this book are all super achievers in their own right. However, like my previous books, Pacesetters 2 also is not just about businessmen and entrepreneurs, it’s also about the difference these people have been able to make to the lives of the common folk, or their fellow compatriots,” Meraj said.
