New free car parks for Jumeirah Lakes Towers

There is good news for 65,0000 people currently working and living in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) master community.

Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, the master developer of JLT, is planning to build more free car parks with the one planned near Lake A likely to accommodate a minimum 400 vehicles.

“We are planning to build new car parks. The one that we will are building near Lake A will have space for a minimum of 400 vehicles going as high as 800,” Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority Executive Chairman, Ahmed bin Sulayem told Emirates 24|7.

He advised residents, annoyed by the activation of barriers, to talk to the interim owners associations (IOAs) to sort out their parking issues.

“We have put the barriers for safety and security of the residents. We don’t want anyone to get into the buildings and park their cars in some designated places for residents. We want the parking lot to be regulated and not like a fish market.

“Residents who need extra parking space should talk to their IOAs and resolve with the issue through discussions,” he stated.

Visitors to retail outlets, who were previously offered two hours of free parking, now get an extra one hour. However, exceeding the limit they will be fined Dh200.

No more lakes will be drained

Asked if he was planning to drain all lakes, DMCC chief said there were no plans to drain any of the remaining three lakes in the master community.

“As of yet, there are no plans to drain any of the remaining lakes to build community facilities on them. The lakes belong to us, but any move, if ever, will be taken only after getting an overwhelmingly positive response from the community.

“When we decided to covert Lake C into a community park, the decision was welcomed by majority of the developers and residents. Even our move to build a mosque and a new car park has got a positive response from the community.”

Last week, DMCC said it was evaluating a range of best practice methods including fresh water lake management systems that allows for purification of water across large-scale projects.

“If we had plans to drain all the lakes, why would be issuing contracts to enhance the quality and purity of the water across the lakes,” he questioned.

The contract is likely to be announced soon.

DMCC land used for mosque

According to bin Sulayem, DMCC was utilizing only a small portion of the Lake A to build the mosque and car park as majority of the land allocated for the project was under its ownership.

“The decision to build the mosque and car park was not an arbitrary one, but was taken after consulting developers. In fact, developers and interim owners associations (IOAs) have welcomed the plan. Overall, the park, mosque and car park are adding value to the master community.”

The community park is set to open in the coming two months.

Earlier this month, bin Sulayem told this website that there was a possibility that the tower could even rival the 828-metre high Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower.

“If the demand keeps pushing, my fear is that the tower might be taller than Burj Khalifa,”
he had said.

The master development comprises 65 mixed-use commercial and residential towers. There are over 200 retail outlets in operation in JLT.
