Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, has recently issued a Cruise Logbook to be distributed among all Dubai-based floating restaurants, as part of the authority’s commitment to ensure and maintain the highest levels of marine safety.

Designed to record all maritime operations, the logbook serves as a step forward to promote maritime safety across Dubai’s waters while facilitating vessel inspections and surveys in compliance with the best international standards.

The Cruise Logbook is a standardized record book that urges floating restaurant businesses in Dubai to record all their vessel operations for later use as a unified source of documented information which will be of great benefit to marine operators to improve their management and technical competencies while offering advanced, high-quality services that meet maritime safety and security standards.

Amer Ali, Executive Director, Dubai Maritime City Authority, said: “The maritime industry is seeing significant progress as Dubai proves to be one of the world’s leading destinations for tourists, businessmen and investors who are willing to tap into the many investment opportunities available across all industries, particularly maritime tourism. It is important to continue our efforts to develop a clear scheme for regulation of Dubai-based maritime businesses including floating restaurants, thus contributing to better environmental protection and maritime safety in accordance with the highest international standards and best practices.”

Ali Al Daboos, Executive Director of Operations, DMCA, added: “The new Cruise Logbook complements the authority’s series of successful initiatives and regulations launched in 2012, which reflect the industry’s strategy to develop and regulate maritime operations to ultimately establish a vibrant and safe maritime environment, in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 and under the directives and vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”

“We advise all marine businesses to record their operations and make accurate entries, as a specialised team from DMCA will look into the content of every logbook to maintain accuracy and reliability of information which will serve as an integrated reference to ensure utmost safety, quality and excellence. The Cruise Logbook is expected to contribute to the maritime industry strategy of developing well-defined foundations that enable floating restaurants to promote marine safety and enhance their service quality and operational efficiency. These businesses are not only seen as an integral part of the local maritime sector, but also support the ongoing efforts to position Dubai as a leading maritime hub in the region and worldwide,” said Dabous.
