One more Malayalam radio station catering to the Keralite community in the UAE and GCC countries will be launched soon.

Pravasi Bharathi 810 AM, claiming to be the first fully digital radio station using the DRM standards, will operate from its headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

While the Malayalam radio scene in the UAE is said to be overcrowded with seven radio stations - three AM Radio Stations (Asianet Radio 657 AM, Radio Asia 1127 AM and Voice of Kerala 1152 AM) and four FM Stations (Hit 97.6, Super FM 94.7, 101.3 Gold FM and Radio Me 100.3), Pravasi Bharathi Radio 810 AM and the Mango Radio from the Malayala Manorama Group will intensify competition.

“We are planning a different approach to radio broadcasting. We will be 50 per cent infotainment and forty per cent information. The programme content will be catering to the Keralites life in the Middle East. About 22 employees - including celebrity RJs - have been recruited for the radio which will be launched in May 2014,” said Chandra Senan, Managing Director and General Manager of Pravasi Bharathi Broadcasting Corporation.

The company is investing Dh19 million for the new radio project.

Headed by K. Chandra Senan, formerly Programme Director of Asianet Radio in the Middle East, the new AM Station will offer 24 hour news bulletins and breaking news, among other programmes lined up for the official launch.

Pravasi Bharathi Radio 810 AM, part of the newly formed Pravasi Bharathi Corporation, Abu Dhabi, will be the first fully digital Malayalam radio station from the region, using the DRM technology, said Chandra Senan, Managing Director of Pravasi Bharathi Broadcasting Corporation.

The Pravasi Bharathi Radio Station will reach Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE and Saudi Arabia. “We have plans for more radio stations in other Indian languages,” Chandra Senan.

A well-known radio personality in India and the Middle East, Chandrasenan will be in charge of other media activities planned under the Pravasi Bharati Broadcasting Corporation including television production, entertainment programmes and talent hunt, events and exhibitions, among other media related activities. Noushad AR is the Chairman of the Pravasi Bharathi Broadcasting Corporation.
