Indian low cost airline SpiceJet will launch flights between Sharjah and Pune from September 21.

Return fares are currently available on the airline’s website for Dh884, inclusive of taxes, with Pune being the third Indian destination to connect with Sharjah on the SpiceJet network. The airline already operates on Sharjah-Varanasi and Sharjah-Lucknow routes.

The budget airline also currently operates four daily flights from Dubai to Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Kochi.

The Sharjah-Pune sector will deploy a 189-seater Boeing 737, taking off from the UAE on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

SpiceJet has been rapidly expanding its global footprint in the recent past with the addition of several cities in the Middle East and Asia on to its network.

Last month, the airline also launched Ahmedabad-Muscat flights.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that the budget carrier may be increasing its fares by as much as 30 per cent as the fall of the Indian rupee results in jet fuel prices being hiked by a steep seven per cent, taking the rates to over Rs75,000 per kilolitre in India.
