Muhammad Jalal Al Raisi, Manager of Communication and Community Services at the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), has stressed the importance of following officially released information relating to all local or international food product safety concerns.

Al Raisi said that the public should refrain from relying on false rumours and spreading misleading information from unknown sources, through the use of social media platforms, which can lead to public confusion and concern. He also advised residents to educate themselves and verify any information they receive before sharing it with others.

Al Raisi slammed the latest gossip which claims that the emirate’s market has contaminated juice products which contain carcinogens, which effect the immune system or cause kidney failure, saying that these rumours can cause unnecessary economic losses to businesses in Abu Dhabi.

Al Raisi added that rumours like the presence of a cancer-causing ingredient in a brand of juice and another regarding the dangers of the use of aluminium packaging products, plastic and foam cups for food have all been previously denied by the government and are perfectly safe for human use.

Another report which has been circulating, and which Al Raisi said the department had previously denied, is the existence of any pork-derivative food products in the market.

The manager stressed that the public should always rely on official announcements and confirmations pertaining to food product safety.
