The Abu Dhabi Health Authority (Haad) has confirmed that it will coordinate with the Ministry of Health, health authorities and concerned bodies in the UAE to monitor the Coronavirus.

Haad pointed out that it had taken the necessary measures and precautions in accordance with the scientific recommendations and standards adopted by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The authority also confirmed that Abu Dhabi does not currently have any cases of infection with the virus.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that includes viruses that may cause a range of illnesses in humans, from the common cold to SARS. Viruses of this family also cause a number of animal diseases, according to WHO

Haad made it clear that if there was a suspicion of any case of infection, the necessary medical tests were available in Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi.

The authority issued a circular in 2012 to all health providers in the emirate on how to handle the virus and the reporting mechanisms used.

The circular instructed health providers to report any case electronically. It stressed that all the health facilities must report to the operations centre on cases, that have similar symptoms of the virus, which are admitted to the intensive care units.
