There seems to be much confusion about whether the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is offering a 30-day grace period for the renewal of vehicle registration from date of expiry.

“There is no 30-day grace period anymore, you will have to renew your car registration before the expiry date. If not, you have to pay a penalty of Dh25 per month,” the RTA call centre told this website when we called them this afternoon.

However, Ahmad Hashim Behroozian, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency told this website that this is not the case. “There is no such ruling. There will be an official statement released if there is any change.”

We then called the service centre again and they reiterated that as per their information, there is no 30-day grace period.

The Dubai Police can fine drivers Dh400 for not renewing vehicle registration.

Effective January 1, the RTA will start writing off vehicles if their registration has not been renewed for two years, Gulf News had reported.

"We advise motorists to renew registration of their cars at the earliest because the deadline for the three-month grace period given by RTA in October this year expires on December 31," Behroozian had said.
