Emirati woman cheated out of Dh462,000

A court in Ajman sentenced an Arab expatriate to one year in prison after he was convicted of selling land which does not exist to an Emirati woman for Dh462,000.

The woman reported the Arab to police after she failed to contact the man about the land, which he claimed is located in his home country.

She told court that the defendant had asked her to transfer the funds to his brother at home and that investment in the land would yield at least Dh1 million for her.

“She told court that she tried to reach that man after returning from his home country to the UAE but could not. She said that she then realised that she was a victim of an impostor,” the Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm' said.
