Moderate tremors experienced in Dubai and other parts of the UAE on Tuesday morning has had no special effects in the region, Dubai Municipality Seismic Network has informed.

The tremors were caused by the earthquake in southern Iran to the south of Qeshm Island, with network recording the main shock at 9.44 am with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter Scale.

The intensity in Mercalli scale ranges between 3 and 4 in Dubai, while it registered 4 in Ras Al Khaimah. The main shock was preceded by three smaller tremors with magnitudes of less than 3 in Richter Scale.

Many high-rises in Dubai were asked to evacuate as a precaution, but no casualties or damages were reported so far.

Mohammed Mashroom, director of the survey department in Dubai Municipality, explained that these activities occurred in the seismic belt, which extends north-west parallel to the Zagros mountain belt due to the collision between Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

He confirmed that all buildings in Dubai are safe against such moderate tremors.
