An Algerian translator allegedly threatened an Emirati via SMS that she will burn herself and her car should he not give her Dh2,000, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim Khalid Mohammed 39, manager, testified that last April while he was at home, he received a very strange SMS from a number that he did not know.

The meassage read: “She will travel to Algeria to visit her sick father and needs Dh2,000 which she has lent you when you were in a trouble.”

Mohammed replied to the message asking about the identity of the sender.

The sender replied saying that her name was Nadia and she is an Algerian who helped him while was in trouble. He sent her back a message telling that he does not know her…So she replied that he will know her soon and asked him to say hello to Eman.. Mohammed got amazed because his wife’s name is Eman.

Nadia started calling his mobile number but he did not answer her calls. She opted to sending SMSs claiming that he was in a relationship with her and that she will make a scandal by coming to his house and burning herself and car in front of his house after leaving a letter accusing him. She also sent him a letter with his full name supported with a multimedia document of his criminal information including full information about him.

The sender did not stop and called him from another number and asked him to pay her back the money she lent him. She said he was the person she was seeking and the issue cannot be a similarity of names especially as she knows his wife and children’s names. She also told him that she has a money transfer receipt…So he asked her to hand him over the receipt and should her claim prove right … he will give her back the amount.

Later, Mohammed received a call from a person who claimed he is Lt Ahmad Al Marri and that he works in Al Qusais Police station… The claimed officer asked him about his name and about his relations with Nadia. Mohammed told him that she is annoying him with her calls and asking him to pay her Dh2,000… The so-claimed officer told him that she has a receipt and witnesses so he will log a complaint against him should he fail to pay the money… Mohammed asked the ‘officer’ to ask Nadia if she knows him …Mohammed heard her voice answering the ‘officer’ with his full name and his personal information.

Mohammed told the ‘officer’ that he will not pay the money. The officer told him that he will proceed with legal action against him.

After this call Mohammed decided to notify the police with the story. He told them about the ‘officer” who claimed he is from Al Qusais police station and about the woman.

Police arrested HHS, 31, Emirati, officer from Abu Dhabi who claimed Lt Ahmad Al Marri who called the victim from a hotel in Al Qusais area.

Police asked HHS to arrange with Nadia to come and take the money. She was arrested while taking the money in front of Rimal hotel at Al Muraqqabat area.

Police also arrested MSA, 29, Emirati, employee at Naturalisation and Foreigners Affairs Department, on accusation of giving to Nadia confidential information he retrieved from the Unified Criminal System and sending them to her via mobile.

The prosecution filed a case against Nadia JN, 36, translator, for misusing etisalat service for annoying and hurting the feelings of others and threatening for the purpose of getting money over the period from April 28 to May 20, 2011.

HSS is accused of impersonating a police officer and MSA is accused of a public servant releasing confidential information.

The court adjourned the case to July 17.
