Globe Telecom, a Philippines-based telecom operator, is offering 20 per cent cheaper rates on phone calls made from the UAE to the Philippines, a company executive has revealed.

“We have a co-branded partnership with Du, a UAE-based telecommunications company, offering 20 per cent cheaper rates to their subscribers,” Carmina Velayo-Villo, Marketing Director, Globe Telecom, said at an event announcing the launch of One Ayala initiative.

du subscribers calling the Philippines will only pay 45 fils per minute under its "Kabayan" offer. Calling Globe and Touch Mobile numbers costs mere  36 fils ( 4.35 pesos) per minute, a 20 per cent savings compared to the rate of 45 fils (5.45 pesos) per minute for calls to other Philippine networks.

The subscriber needs to call *135*71# to activate the service for free. However, there is a set-up fee of Dh1 or 12 pesos on each call.

The company, a subsidiary of Ayala Corporation, has 44 million subscribers in the country and serves 12 million overseas Filipinos.

In April 2015, Du announced call rates of less than 0.75 fils per second to the Philippines.

“Expats from the Philippines form a large portion of our customer base, and in a bid to show our appreciation for their loyalty, we are enabling them to connect more with their loved ones at the market’s lowest calling rates,” the company said in a statement.

Globe also announced on Wednesday the launch of a flat rate unlimited data roaming service in over 50 countries worldwide for its prepaid subscribers.

The 'Globe Prepaid Roam Surf' allows prepaid users to gain access to the Internet abroad for an entire 24-hour cycle, making their data connectivity experience more seamless and worry-free.

The flat rate data roaming is available to 50 countries such as Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, United Kingdom, US and the rest of Europe.
