Various vacancies have opened up with Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

The health entity is hiring both local and expat professionals for its various departments. Candidates are required in fields such as medical, technical and administrative areas.

DHA is in need of anaesthesia technicians, application administrators, nurses, attendants, audiologist, CCTV technician, cardiac anaesthetist, consultants in internal medicines, nephrology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric, dental assistants, technical ophthalmologists and many other professionals in various categories.

There is lack of adequate data on the salaries given by DHA, but according to www.payscale.com, an online salary, benefits and compensation information company, the median salary offered by the health provider is Dh119,279 per annum.

The UAE is in need of a large number of healthcare professionals and demand for people in the sector is huge.

According to figures released by the Saudi German Hospital-Dubai, the healthcare industry in the country faces a shortage of doctors and the number of professionals needed could go up to 12,920 by 2014.

Being a recession-proof industry, salaries have already gone up for those in the sector.

Figures released by Hays, an international recruitment company, shows that salaries of doctors in the UAE have gone up substantially over the past one year, when other industries were going through periods of no increments and bonuses.

Data from Hays, published in 2011, shows the average starting salary of a General Practitioner to be between Dh18,000 and Dh30,000 with housing and transport allowance.

Last year, the salary of this category of professionals went up to between Dh25,000 and Dh30,000. This year, the same bracket will take home between Dh30,000 and Dh40,000 per month.

“According to the input of UAE medical practitioners on our online remuneration benchmarking platform, associate specialists receive an average of up to Dh10,420, medical consultants receive an average of up to Dh39,560 and general practitioners receive an average of up to Dh26,236,” a recruitment expert told Emirates 24|7 on the condition of anonymity.

“However, salaries vary largely from one institution to another and also according to the academic and professional background of the person in question as salaries of doctors particularly depend to a very large extent on the certificates and the higher degrees they hold, in addition to their years of experience in the field and their specific areas of specialty and expertise,” he said.

The salaries of professionals in government and private sector hospitals and clinics may vary too.
