Abu Dhabi Court sentenced an Arab man to three months of imprisonment followed by deportation and fine of Dh10,000 for asking a bribe to provide electrical connection to a new residential building in the capital.

The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution referred the accused to the courts when one of the contractors filed a case against him saying that he had asked for bribe in order to finish the procedures of providing power connection to the new residential building. This was despite the fact that the contractor had received a no-objection certificate to get power supply from official authorities.

The contractor added that his staff tried their best to get power connection to the building but the accused was delaying the procedure on purpose, and at last he asked one of the staff for bribe in order to complete the procedure quickly.

Upon the contractor’s complaint, the Public Prosecution set a trap in coordination with the contractor, and they succeeded in arresting the Arab man red-handed while he was receiving the bribe.

However, the accused denied accusations during initial investigations and assured that the money he received from the contractor was a charity from the contractor during the Holy month of Ramadan.
