Dubai’s traffic police said vehicles owners will be fined Dh200 and the cars will be confiscated for one week due to old and worn out tyres which have caused a number of accidents.

Colonel Saif Mohair Al Mazroui, Director of the Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said 2,337 violations were recorded in the first four months of this year for not maintaining the vehicles’ tyres.

Stressing that the worn out tyres are a major cause of traffic accidents which led to loss of lives and property, he urged motorists to inspect tyres frequently and especially during the summer.

Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said police will intensify traffic patrols on the internal roads and highways to inspect the vehicles’ tyres and will fine and confiscate the vehicle for not observing the laws.

According to Dubai Police statistics, 719 motorists were fined for violations in January, 711 in February, 474 in March and 433 in April.

Colonel Saif Al Mazroui said a vehicle turned turtle after tyre burst on Mohammed bin Zayed Road last Thursday near Dubai-Al Ain Road bridge towards Abu Dhabi and the police had to break the vehicle’s window to save the family.

He asked drivers to inspect tyres before starting the day and then once a week for their own safety.

He also advised the vehicle owners to replace tyres in case of erosion and also measure the air pressure from time to time.
