Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) has announced the launch of a public portal - 'Manaa' - to promote, control and monitor consumer safety in Abu Dhabi and encourage feedback on unsafe products.

The first-of-its-kind interactive product recall and incident reporting system allows consumers to view and identify products that have been retracted from the market for non-compliance to the UAE's safety standards. The website features images of the recalled products, as well as model numbers and reasons for withdrawal.

For added convenience, the portal can be accessed on smart devices through downloading the app from the Apple and Samsung application stores.

Abdulla Al Khoori, acting Executive Director - Consumer and Market Services, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), said: "Launching Manaa is part of the QCC's commitment to safeguarding the community and ensuring that all products introduced into this market conform to a high standard of safety, sustainability and performance. The launch of the system comes at a time when more than 15,000 products have been recalled from the Abu Dhabi market since the beginning of our product safety surveillance services in 2012.

"We are confident this initiative will raise consumer awareness about accepted safety standards in the emirate and serve as a cross-reference platform to help the public make informed decisions. We also aim to earn the trust of consumers by continuously monitoring and testing products sold and distributed in the Abu Dhabi market in collaboration with concerned authorities."

Engineer Muna Khamis Salmin, Acting Director of Consumer Safety Services, QCC, said: "The free-to-access Manna portal can be used to report unsafe products such as electrical appliances, cosmetics, or toys. The site's easy interface allows consumers to provide feedback through completing a preset form, recording a voice message or by providing contact details and requesting a response from a customer service representative."

She added: "QCC urges consumers in Abu Dhabi to participate in this initiative and actively engage in the portal to promote safe markets amongst the community as each remark will contributing to raising the safety quotient in the emirate. QCC will respond to complaints within 48-hours based on the complexity and availability of information. The Manaa portal features a tab for users to follow-up on the status of their feedback and complaints."
