In just a few hours, the Dubai Municipality will reward over 2,000 residents in gold at the Zabeel Park for emerging successful in the six-week-long, weight-loss campaign.

“We will be rewarding 2,648 residents in gold,” said Mohammed Al Noori, Dubai Municipality’s director of marketing and relations.

According to him, the total value of the gold rewards totalled to Dh2.6million.

“We will be giving away 16.823kg of gold.”

In a special event, which will kick-off at 3pm in Zabeel Park, the winners will be honoured.

According to Noori, 575 residents lost less than 2 kilos, while 1,795 people lost between 2-5 kilograms.

He added that seven residents lost over 20kg.

The campaign, Noori explained, has made a remarkable impact. “It is one of our most successful campaigns. We’ve seen that this has helped people become more disciplined about their health.”

He noted that earlier people would head to a gym, but not everyone was serious about adopting a healthy lifestyle.

This attitude, Noori added, has changed drastically since the launch of the ‘Your Weight In Gold’ campaign.

“Everyone who lost weight has done so gradually. No crash diets or quick-fixes.”

The success has been encouraging, and the civic body is planning to create similar campaigns in the future.

According to the official, nearly 10,000 people had signed up for this campaign.

Soon after the launch on July 19, the Dubai Municipality had doubled and tripled the gold rewards.

Those who lost over 5kg will rewarded with 2gm per kilo, and 3gms for every kilo lost above 10kg. Anyone who lost a minimum of 2kilos stood a chance to win 1gm for every kilo lost.
