Over 67,000 traffic offences in Dubai in one month

Dubai’s traffic police recorded more than 67,000 road offences in August, an average of 2,300 offences a day, one of the world’s highest rates.

Nearly a third of the offences involved speeding while around 5,800 cases involved illegal parking, the emirate’s traffic chief said.

There were also 5,231 offences involving blocking traffic while 45 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, Major General Mohammed Al Zafin said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Emirat Alyoum.

“During August, our records showed there were 21,220 traffic offences in the emirate,” he said, adding that nearly 16,000 offences involving exceeding the speed limit of between 21 and 30 km.

Around 2,955 cases involved exceeding the speed limit of 31-40 km and 80 offences were for exceeding the 80-kph speed limit.
