Paid parking areas will be extended to more areas from the first week of next month, a senior official said.

Department of Transports (DoT) in Abu Dhabi said that sectors E18, E18-2 and E18-3 located between Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street and Al Salam Street and between Hazza bin Zayed Street and Al Falah Street will come under Mawaqif – the paid parking management of DoT – from July 3, 2011.

Paid parking timing in these areas will be from 8am to 10pm, Saturday to Thursday with Dh3 per hour for premium parking (curbstones painted in turquoise and white) with a maximum permitted duration of four hours. While Dh2 or Dh15 per day will be charged for the standard parking (curbstones painted in turquoise and black), media reports said. Parking will be free on official holidays

Meanwhile, Department of Transport has warned residents not to park their vehicles in unpaved and sandy areas which come under Mawaqif management.

The violators will be fined Dh200 as it could damage underground utilities, said Engineer Najeeb Al Zarouni, general manager of parking at the DoT.

Sandy and unpaved areas will be under continuous surveillance by Mawaqif officers and violators of the rule will face Dh200 fine, Al Zarouni said.
