Pakistanis in UAE celebrate Independence Day

Expatriate Pakistanis in Dubai and Abu Dhabi today celebrated their 69th Independence Day with national zeal and enthusiasm.

The celebrations started with the flag hoisting ceremony in Dubai consulate and Abu Dhabi embassy.

Ambassador of Pakistan Asif Durrani hoisted the National flag.

Durrani, while felicitating the Pakistanis on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day, recalled the great sacrifices rendered by the forefathers 69 years ago for a separate homeland.

The ambassador urged community to stand united against extremist elements. In this regard, he lauded the role and sacrifices being rendered by the armed forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan.

He said that the whole nation was united against dark forces of extremism.

Referring to the role of Pakistani community in UAE, Ambassador Durrani appreciated their contribution in the development of UAE.

He particularly appreciated the UAE leadership's special affiliation towards Pakistan and said that the leaders of the two countries were keen on further strengthening bilateral relations. Ambassador Durrani also lauded the role of the Pakistani community in strengthening the national economy and improving ties.

Another ceremony in UAE was held at 8am hours in the premises of Pakistan Consulate at Dubai.

Javed Jalil Khattak, Consul General hoisted the National Flag while the National Anthem was played.

Khattak said that the country had come a long way despite enormous challenges, and was a proud member of the comity of nations and an active participant in contributing to international peace and security. Paying tribute to the present leadership, he said that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif determined resolve had succeeded in combating the evil forces of extremism and terrorism within the country as well as external threats.

Khattak commended the Pakistani community for their contributions in the progress and development of the United Arab Emirates. He recalled the excellent fraternal relations between Pakistan and the UAE and stated that the two countries have always stood by each other. He expressed his gratitude to the UAE leadership for their consistent support to the people of Pakistan.
