An Abu Dhabi court sentenced the parents of a child who fell to her death from the fifth floor because of their negligence to a suspended one month imprisonment but they will still stand trial in an associated case.
The judge issued the sentence in a case involving the rescue of the three-year-old girl by two policemen who by accident saw her sat at the kitchen window in her fifth level apartment. The prosecutor then accused the parents of negligence on the grounds the girl was left alone at home.
Three months later, the child fell to her death from the same window although the parents had made a statement pledging to look after her.
“The sentence yesterday concerns the first case…the prosecutor is still investigating the death case and there will be another trial of the two parents in this case,” the Arabic language daily 'Al Bayan' said, quoting court sources.
