A five-month-old baby boy, who was born premature and suffers from certain medical conditions, has been abandoned by his Emirati parents in Latifa Hospital.

The infant's father blames the hospital for the child's condition and has filed a complaint with Dubai Health Authority. Meanwhile, hospital authorities who claim the baby suffers from birth defects have taken the case to the department of protection of rights of children and women.

According to 'Emarat Al Youm', the infant underwent emergency surgery after birth for breathing problems. He was kept under observation because his internal organs were not fully developed either. Later, when the medical team found the baby fit enough to go home, the parents refused to accept him.

According to hospital authorities, the parents never visited by the infant since October 2011.

The child apparently also sufferes from epilepsy. The parents allege they cannot take home the infant because they have a five-year-old child with similar ailment.

Colonel Al Mur of the department of protection of rights of children and women said: "It is surprising that the father alleges the child developed complications following surgery. The man claims that medical reports issued after delivery stated that the child was only suffering from breathing problems as his lungs were not fully developed."

The father claims that the child developed neurotic disorder after the surgery and has filed a complaint with the Dubai Health Authority, he added.

Colonel Al Mur has been trying to persuade the parents to accept the baby but they remain adamant.
