Pedestrian dies crossing Dubai-Al Ain Road; hit twice on highway

A man who wanted to cross the road on the busy motorway between Dubai and the Eastern oasis town of Al Ain had evidently not known he had a rendezvous with death.

The accident was reminiscent of the American horror film series ‘The Final Destination’ as the unnamed man narrowly escaped death when he was hit by the mirror of a speeding car.

As he lay down unconscious near the ambulance on the road, another car shot past the medical vehicle and crushed him to death.

The accident took place on July 29, when the man waited for the road to become clear and tried to cross-over, unaware he was taking his final steps.

He had already crossed two lanes and was in the third left lane when a four-wheel Nissan Patrol screeched ahead of him after its driver was caught off guard by the man.

The driver managed to maneuver his vehicle towards the edge of the left lane, allowing him to avoid knocking that man over. But an accident appeared unavoidable as the car mirror hit the man and knocked him out.

An ambulance arrived a while later, parked in the middle lane with its flash lights in operation and tried to resuscitate the man before putting him into the ambulance.

“At this time, a four-wheel Infinity which was coming fast on that road shot past the ambulance to the left lane and crushed that man to death,” Emarat Al Youm daily said, quoting Dubai’s Traffic Police Chief Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin.
