Plan your Dubai weekend: DSF fireworks, Arabic concerts, musicals

It’s not just shopping that should keep you hooked this weekend, with the organisers of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) packing in some great cultural and outdoor events.

First up is the spectacular fireworks that will be set off from the beach, and creek park at 8pm and Global Village at 9pm. The beach and creek park fireworks will be on every weekend through DSF, while the Global Village fireworks will be on Thursdays and Fridays.

The beach will go retro for DSF celebrations, with a carnival-styled fun entertainments. Acts by unicyclists, stilt-walkers, jugglers, acrobats, fire-eaters, street dancers, magicians, contortionists, balloon twisters and bubble performers will create a magical ambience from 6pm till 10pm, every Wednesday to Sunday.

Exciting carnival games priced between Dh5 to Dh20 per game and hosted from 10am to midnight every day will add to the merry-making. The colorful and lively event will also bring popular carnival rides, a charming carousel and carnival train for children of all ages to enjoy.

This DSF also unveils, for the first time, the Broadway classic ‘Disney’s Beauty and the Beast’. The smash-hit musical will be performed at the Sheikh Saeed Hall 2 & 3 at Dubai World Trade Centre till January 9. Two shows on Friday, and three on Saturday.

And, for those looking for a free makeover, you are in luck. Paris Gallery at the Dubai Mall will host an instore makeover on January 8. The offer starts from 10 am, up until 11 pm. And, those registered also stand a chance to win cosmetics worth Dh5,000.

Fans of Arabic music are in for a treat with big names promising to spin their magic. Singing stars Mohamed Abdo, Angham and Majed El Madani will perform on Saturday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

In its 21st year, DSF 2016 runs until February 1, under the tagline ‘Unwrap the Exceptional’, and offers visitors a multitude of unique shopping experiences across the city. It’s organised by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
